Inner Mongolia Q1 raw coal output up 3.9% on yr

Northern China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region registered a 3.9% year-on-year growth in raw coal output during January-March, which expanded by 1.2 percentage points from that in the first two months, according to local statistics bureau.

 

The region produced a total of 320 million tonnes of coal over the given period, ranking first across the nation. March's output achieved the highest monthly volume in recent year at 120 million tonnes, up 6.1% on the year.

 

Ordos, a major coal heartland in Inner Mongolia, made great contribution in the region's coal production, reaching 220 million tonnes and accounting for 68.3% of the region's total. It drove coal production growth by 2.7 percentage points.

 

Xilingol League saw its output up by 5.7% on the year to 35.02 million tonnes over January-March, driving coal production growth in the region by 0.6 percentage point, the bureau said.

 

In terms of power sector, Inner Mongolia generated a total 195.04 TWh of electricity during the first three months, up 12.3% on the year and ranking first in China. The yearly growth accelerated by 3.1 percentage points from a year ago. Power generation in March grew 7.8% year on year to 64.28 TWh.

 

During the first quarter, the region's thermal power generation amounted to 151.75 TWh, a 12.3% rise from a year earlier. Electricity output from renewable sources reached 42.65 TWh, up 12.8% on the year and taking up 21.9% of the total, with wind power at 37.21 TWh (+12.9% YoY) and solar power at 4.99 TWh (+12.6% YoY).
