China Shenhua Energy Company Limited, a flagship subsidiary of China Energy Investment Corporation, produced 25.9 million tonnes of commercial coal in February, unchanged from the year-ago level yet declining 4.8% month on month, said the company in a statement released on March 15.
The output decline was mainly ascribed to shutdowns during Chinese New Year holiday.
The company's commercial coal sales reached 38.6 million tonnes in February, edging up 0.8% on the year and 0.3% from a month earlier driven by increased outbound coal sales.
Huanghua port shipped 16.9 million tonnes of coal in the same month, up 18.2% year on year (YoY) yet down 10.1% month on month (MoM). The year-on-year growth was primarily attributed to a lower base in February 2023. Tianjin port shipped 3.0 million tonnes of coal, falling 11.8% YoY and 23.1% MoM, data showed.
The shipment volume came in at 8.7 million tonnes, down 21.6% YoY and 38.3% MoM. A rise in shipping demand contributed to the yearly increase.
Besides, China Shenhua generated 14.79 TWh of electricity in February, dropping 13.7% YoY. And total electricity sales decreased 14.1% to 13.9 TWh in the same month. The decline was impacted by the holiday effect during the festival.
