State miner Coal India Limited (CIL) has announced a record-breaking coal production of 703.91 million tonnes for the fiscal year up to March 7, outpacing the previous year's total of 703.2 million tonnes by 24 days.
The milestone comes alongside a coal stockpile of 72.70 million tonnes reported on the same date, suggesting sufficient supply ahead of the summer peak period.
The achievement is attributed to the Ministry of Coal's strategic initiatives, including the adoption of the Mine Developer and Operator (MDO) model, modernization and mechanization of mines, expansion of existing projects, and the incorporation of Mass Production Technologies. Digital operations enhancements, such as the implementation of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, have also made a contribution.
The ministry emphasized the significance of this milestone, not only reflecting CIL's operational excellence but also highlighting the government's commitment to ensuring energy security and meeting the growing demand for coal, according to a statement issued by the coal ministry.
The statement underlined the government's role in facilitating sectoral growth through policy reforms and support for coal mining companies.
